During the spring of 2020 Covid hit communities hard. The Lochaber Center was basically shut down for a period of time and then could only open on a very limited basis. The community had very few opportunities to hold events, socialize and pay the bills.
The Lochaber growers and community volunteers stepped up to the plate and got busy baking at The Lochaber Center and selling our goods at our local Glenhill Berry Farm. We also prepared take out dinners using the community vegetables donated by the Lochaber Growers and gardeners and sold take out dinners from the Center.
Both programs were successful and kept the Community Center going and the bills paid. The community really appreciated the help and support from the local farms in the community. To say thanks, we wanted to showcase the local beautiful harvest produced each year and ways to prepare this bounty not only through the take out dinners program but also by showcasing desserts as well. So…. the Fall Festival of Desserts was born.
The first Fall Festival of Desserts took place in 2021 and it is steadily growing into a successful yearly festival much like the yearly Strawberry and Blueberry Festivals. These festivals are very popular with our seniors as they like the opportunity to get out and socialize, enjoy entertainment and taste some yummy desserts. The Seniors continually thank us for having these festivals in our community.
